Christmas Tree at Glenwood Circle Illuminated ...for 22nd consecutive year!
Atwater Park neighbors, along with Santa Clause, gathered at Glenwood Circle on December 4th to light the Atwater Park Christmas Tree.  This year marks the 22nd year in a row that the tree has been part of the holiday celebration in the neighborhood.  Following music and caroling, Santa, who arrived via a Springfield Fire Department truck, lit the tree and greeted the neighborhood families with good cheer.  Following the tree lighting, there was ice cream and cake at Russ' Circle Luncheonette.

Christmas Tree Ready for Lighting
Greg deVillier and Stan Zamachaj, with the help of other Atwater Park neighbors, have the Christmas Tree at Glenwood Circle ready for the season, and Santa's arrival.  Along with the installation of the tree, the addition of the lights and a star, the greenspace and traffic island were readied for the winter season.

2012 Membership Drive Underway

Please join us as the APCA kicks off  the beginning of our 2012 fundraising campaign as well as the APCA’s achievements of the past year which include some of the following successes:

  • Successfully lobbying of Baystate Medical Center to secure a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR DONATION as a form of mitigation for inconvenience caused by new hospital construction.
  • Developing new landscaping plans for both sets of pillars, with bushes and flowers to be planted in late September.
  • Working with our City Council Representative to successfully lobby the Mayor for an extension to the originally limited plan for the repaving of Springfield Street.
  • Partnering with the Springfield Preservation Trust to host a very successful neighborhood tour.
  • Planting and maintaining flower beds and containers at Glenwood Circle, as well as the Silver and Caseland/Cunningham Street green spaces.  (Additionally, the APCA is now responsible for mowing these last two areas, since the city no longer provides this service).
  • Hosting last winter’s Holiday Party & Tree Lighting, Spring Clean Up,  Neighborhood Tag Sale,  Two Food Collection Drives,  Summer Jazz Concert and August Film Festival.
  • Arbitration of occasional conflicts involving parking issues, noise ordinances and other “quality of life” concerns.

Your dues and attendance at meetings will help us do even more in 2012. Visit the Membership Page for more information on how you can become a dues paying member of APCA in 2012.

Please join us in developing new goals and strategies to make our neighborhood a better place in which to live.

Landscape Improvements at Entry Pillars Completed

On October 15, 2011 new landscaping was planted at the entry pillars on upper and lower Springfield Street.  The new plantings will greatly enhance the visual look of the greenspace areas, and will provide the opportunity for seasonal displays of flowers and color.  Thanks to everyone who helped make this effort a success, including students from Sabis International Charter School in Springfield, who participated as part of the Arbor Allies Initiative at the school.
