Text-A-Tip Hotline Launched
from Masslive.com, March 2, 2011

In a major effort to improve public safety and reduce crime in our neighborhoods, the office of Springfield Mayor Domenic J. Sarno, the Springfield, Holyoke and Chicopee Police Departments, the Hampden district attorney's office and the Sheriff's Department have collaborated to launch the new anonymous Text-A-Tip Hotline. It's another important weapon to help reduce crime, and it depends on your participation.

The anonymous Text-A-Tip hotline is a safe and anonymous way to help fight crime without anyone knowing who you are. The technology behind the Text-A-Tip process allows the sender's information to be sent to a remote server outside the United States, which strips from the message all identifying information. The message is then sent to the Hampden Sheriff's Department, which forwards the message to the appropriate city or town police department for immediate action.

Here's how it works:

First, using your cell phone, text the word "solve," plus your message; be sure to include city or town where crime took place.

Second, send your message to 274637 or "Crimes." It's that easy.

The next time you see a crime, Text-A-Tip and you will be part of the solution, because crime prevention is everybody's business. This article was written by Steve O'Neil, community affairs officer, of the Hampden County Sheriff's Department.

THANK YOU! for Gulf Oil Disaster Donations to Help Wildlife

Submitted by Therese Leger, July 22, 2010

Through the efforts of Atwater Park neighbors, a large donation of goods and money were contributed by our neighbors to support the rescue and rehabilitation of wildlife affected by the Gulf Oil Disaster.  Atwater neighbors are responsible for the donation of items and funding that will go a long way in helping assist the recovery efforts in the Gulf.

A thank you note from the organizers of the regional recovery event, Tom and Debbi Bradley, was also received by APCA and is provided below.  Thanks for all your hard work, time and contributions.  Thanks to all who participated in this effort.

Stop Toxic Incineration in Springfield

Submitted by Brian Sheehy and Bill Tarnowski, June 16, 2010.

This is one of those rare opportunities for the public to find out more about the the DEP will be conducting on the Health Impact Study the DEP will be conducting on the Demolition Waste Incinerator currently planned for construction here in Springfield.

It's also a chance to hear from some experts in the field and to share comments and concerns with state officials .  It should be an interesting learning experience on a topic that concerns all of us.
